and she is fertile like season or tide / on spiderweb on the hillslope / shakti / she holds roots / grows gather[s] Makes Builds Flick[s] like trout through the shallows / Sudden Rain falls / berries [&] apples will mottle Blossoms dance in cedar shade / [her] Arm out softly touching smoothing him [his] wounded sour squinted eye confuses her




* Praise for Woman Whose Eye Sheilds the Land is a cut-up translation that responds to and challenges ‘Praise for Sick Women’ by Gary Snyder in Riprap and Cold Mountain Poems. 







Jo Dixon’s collection, Purl was published in 2020 by Shoestring Press. Her poetry and flash fiction appears in a range of journals and anthologies. In 2024, she was highly commended in the Rialto Nature and Place Poetry Competition. She is senior lecturer in creative writing at De Montfort University, and lives in Nottingham.
